I like shooting close-ups. This is of some concertina wire in Coalition City where I lived during my deployment to Southwest Asia. Concertina wire is usually stretched around areas where they don't want people to get in. In some cases, like prisons, it is designed to keep people in. I guess this is similar to razor wire. I thought the hooks on here would be welded on somehow, but instead it was a single ribbon of steel that was molded, cut and sharpened. I believe this wire was protecting the dining facility as it was being built.
On June 9, I was deployed to Southwest Asia as part of the Air Force’s Aerospace Expeditionary Force. During my stay, we lived in "Coalition City." Coalition City consists of a series of trailers for billeting, bunkers, dining facilities, a base exchange, a movie theater, the finance office, several bus stops and several bathrooms. The tiny city also had a central meeting area where troops on deployment could indulge in as many as three alcoholic beverages a day. The city exhibits one of the reasons why so many military folks choose to join the Air Force – and why they stay for a career.
